Road Race success for Colin
Colin McDermott has scored his first road win of the season in the LVRC abc race held on the Dunsfold circuit.
50 riders started the race over 8 laps of the Dunsfold road circuit. After several short lived escapes during a fast race,
He managed to get away with three other riders with a lap and half to go. They worked well together and managed to stay out
in front about 30 seconds clear until the finale which was an uphill sprint to the top of Dunsfold Common, which Colin duly
won.
This result puts him in second position overall in the LVRC Tricote series.
National 10 Champs
With the National 10 mile championships being held in the South, the Festival RC was represented by Colin McDermott.
The overall event was won by a flying Michael Hutchinson in 18:07 which was a championship record and well clear of anyone
else.
Colin was one of the earliest starters and probably didn't get the best of conditions, but still he raced round in a very quick
time of 21:18. Hopefully I'll soon be able to post a report from Colin on his National Championship experience.
Festival club 10 Champs
The club 10 champs were held as part of the Southern Counties CU promotion on the Crawley course. As only myself and Barry McDermott
took to the line from the FRC, it came down to a straight shoot-out between the two of us for the title. In surprisingly good
conditions, there were some good times posted in an event won by Keith Coffey in 20:04. With Barry already having won the Medium
Gear Championship, the challenge was to prevent him more of the silverwear! Fortunately I was able to do this with a rare untroubled
ride through the numerous Crawley roundabouts.
Result:
1st Trevor Keenan 21:49
2nd Barry McDermott 22:50

Festival RC Surrey League Road Races

The first weekend of the Surrey League road race season saw the Festival promoting two events on the Kirdford circuit.
The morning event for 3rd category riders saw a large field set off in breezy but dry conditions. Midway through the race the
winning break formed which was whittled down to two by the last lap. First across the line was Ben Wilson (Private Member) from
Roger Smith (VC Etoile).
Result in brief:
1st Ben Wilson (Private Member)
2nd Roger Smith (VC Etoile)
3rd Geoffrey Lulham (Evans Cycles RT)
4th Philip Watkins (Old Portlians CC)
5th John Hyde (Velocity Bikes CC)
The afternoon race for 2/3rd categories had a cold wet start as heavy rain fell in the neutralised zone, so a quick start was
guaranteed to warm everyone up. Pretty soon the numerous attacks saw riders clipping off in ones and twos, however after concerted
chasing from the bunch, the race arrived at the finish intact with the win being taken by Mark Perry of the Bournemouth Arrow.
Result in brief:
1st Mark Perry (Bournemouth Arrow)
2nd James Holland-Leader (agiskoviner.com)
3rd Steven Saunders (Kingston Wheelers)
4th Stephen Dring (Team Echelon)
5th Phil Sheehan (Mosquito Bikes)
